Graphics Article Bitmap Images & vector graphics

Graphics Article Bitmaps

Vectors and Bitmaps Images (Magazine)

In this article I will be explaining and covering certain topics such as; Bitmaps, Vectors, Formats, Editing programmes (Photoshop adobe & Illustrator adobe), Graphic Designing and all you need to know about Graphics Design. I’m an experienced Graphics Designer and I will be creating a beginner’s guide for Graphics Design.

The first thing you would need to know about graphics, are the two key software programmes that are used in graphic design today. One of the in particular software is ‘Adobe Photoshop’.

Adobe Photoshop is used primarily for editing and improving digital photographs, by alternating aspects of a photograph through redefining and correcting faults in the specific image. Whether it be colour co-ordination, tones, manipulating elements and removing them.

A specific element of Photoshop would be the fact of the software programme using ‘Bitmap’ images. Bitmap images are 2D graphics, which consists of pixels that are built up in the form of a grid. They are individual miniature dots that represent certain colours.

Each pixel can represent more than 16 million different colours that can be displayed through most computer monitors.

A Bitmap image is the most appropriate format for photo-realistic images or such as images with high amounts of decent quality detail, because of it being contained with minor pixels.

Using Photoshop can be quite competitive to get the gist of it, but once you know the key elements of the specific software. You’ll be able to develop your abilities towards being a qualified graphics designer.

The key elements to having an understanding towards designing material would be having the knowledge and understanding of the individual tools.

For example, through the development of my poster I had recently created for a feature film. I had used the basic tools from the tool bar to establish this specific
Poster. The tools I had used were: Magnetic Lasso tool, Magic Wand tool, Horizontal type tool and implementation of Layers.

The Magnetic Lasso tool is used to cut out certain aspects of an image, to implement objects into your own project.

When using the Magnetic Lasso tool, the tool automatically outlines and connects with the exact object your wanting to cut out.

The Horizontal tool is text based to which is the use of implementing text into your image, that can be optimized. You can use a various amount of customizable effects from; Drop shadows, Colour Overlay, Texture and etc.

Layers are one of the most important features within using the software of Adobe Photoshop. Layers within an image are a main priority because of its use of enabling a compatible editing system.

You can select individual layers that can hold key elements of your image, whether it is the background, text and objects that you have individually cut out using the Magnetic Tool. With the use of layers you can also merge certain layers together with the Merge tool, in order to create a more organised editing process and a sufficient product.

 Vector
Vector images are much different than Bitmaps. Rather than having to be built up of pixels, vector image is made up of numerous lines and shapes.

These have the term of ‘objects’, which are defined mathematically as a set of algorithms or formulas. This allows them to be redrawn over and over.

However the bitmap is static, as for vector is image dynamic. The vector image is not limited by size or shape. The image can be easily minimized or expanded, compressed or widened.

 Bitmap
Bitmap images are made up of pixels with in a grid. Pixels are elements that build up a picture, which is displayed on your screen. They are individual miniature dots that represent a certain color.

Each pixel can represent any one of the more than 16 million different colors that can be displayed by most computer monitors; the bitmap image is able to imitate the subtle color differences of a photograph.

The second key editing software that you would need to about is Adobe illustrator. This in particular software is used for developing font’s and logos.

Adobe illustrator doesn’t use the same format as Adobe Photoshop; instead this specific software uses Vector’s.

However you can still combine both of the software’s, to development of a certain product.

Through the progress of an individual product you can implement a logo or font from illustrator to Photoshop with the use of formats.

One in particular format that allows you to transfer a vector image into a bitmap image is EPS (Encapsulated PostScript). An EPS image is able to contain text as well as graphics.

The specific format that is used to upload or send images across platforms is the JPEG. The JPEG is an image that has been compressed within its quality; the quality of the image is lowered down so that it is capable to be sent across different platforms.

The next on the list is the RAW file format. The RAW file format is the high quality image that cannot be transferred through platforms because of its file size is to big and is unable to send or upload. The RAW image file must only be processed through formats to become of use. The file is regularly processed through (JPG etc).
